I have a goal.

I am committed to eliminating the United States' health care crisis . . . one person at a time.

The first time I stated my goal publicly the room broke out into uproarious laughter. Everyone thought I was making a joke. On the contrary, I was completely serious.

We are facing a health care crisis. One out of every two people in the United States is dying of heart disease. One out of four is developing cancer. A higher percentage of our population is languishing in nursing homes than any other country in the world. Over half of the children in some classrooms are being treated for attention deficit disorder. Nearly all diseases are preventable and, in most cases, reversible if caught in time.

"It is now believed that half of all hip fractures are the result of an ongoing vitamin D deficiency."

You are fearfully and wonderfully made. Your body did not evolve by mere chance, but was carefully and precisely designed to function perfectly in a wide variety of conditions. It contains marvelous healing mechanisms that are capable to responding to nearly all challenges, provided that they are given the resources required to operate efficiently.

The last half of the twentieth century saw a dramatic increase in our understanding of how to support our body's healing mechanisms. The fact that this information is not generally taught to physicians or made available to the general public is a national tragedy of epic proportions.

For example, the relationship between low levels of vitamin B-6 and heart attack risk was published in 1948, before I had learned to walk. My father died of a heart attack in 1979, seven years after I had graduated from medical school. Sadly, neither I nor anyone else ever suggested to him that taking a simple B-vitamin supplement could prolong his life.

As much as I would like to be able to recommend a magic bullet that would prevent or cure all diseases, such a potion does not exist. Optimum wellness is dependent upon many factors:

  • the quality of the air we breathe,
  • what we put into our bodies,
  • what we put onto our bodies,
  • the activities we pursue,
  • the quality of rest we receive,
  • what we put into our minds and
  • how we nourish our spirits.

Wellness is quite different than not being sick. When I made that statement at one of my Wellness Forums a man remarked, "You're absolutely right. I had my heart attack at 8:02 a.m. on a Thursday morning. That was when I became sick, but I wasn't well at 8:01!"

These protocols are the result of over 30 years of personal research and experience. They are not intended to compete with any treatments you may be receiving. Following a wellness protocol does not mean that you must abandon any treatment plan you have been given. The wellness protocol is simply meant to assure that your body receives the support it requires to complete the healing process.

Wellness is a journey, not a destination. I welcome you to a lifelong adventure in your quest to die young - as late in life as possible.
